Burwell & Sasser

Vince currently serves as a professor on the theater faculty of Boston Conservatory at Berklee College. Organizations that he has worked with include the Lincoln Center Institute, Urban Bush Women, the Katherine Dunham Institute,Trenton Educational Dance Institute, National Dance Institute, Festival del Caribe Santiago de Cuba, Ile Aiye Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, the Bates Dance Festival and the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival; composed for Cairo Egypt Opera House Ballet, and been a longtime member of the faculty and staff at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.

 

His music was featured in the HBO documentary Jacques D'Amboise in China.Vince was also a member of the 2018 Musikmarathon in Austria, the 2016 Art Saves Lives Musical Theater Lecturer on St. Maarten Island, and is a recent recipient of a Pew Center for Arts and Heritage Fellowship for "Pushers," and a Brooklyn Arts Council grant recipient for his work as a producer and composer with Renegade Performance Group's Afrofuturism Series.

 

Proud member of The Dramatists Guild, Local 802 AFM, a charter member of the Omicron Gamma Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Professional Music Fraternity. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education/Voice from Florida A&M, and an MFA from NYU's Graduate Music Theatre Writing at Tisch.

James' international performance career spans Broadway and off, voiceover, film and television, and he has been involved  in the development of dozens of new works for the stage as an award-winning actor, writer, producer, and director.

 

Theatre organizations he has worked with include The Old Globe, New Dramatists, The Eugene O'Neill Center, Ars Nova, Manhattan Theatre Club, Sundance White Oak Theatre Lab, The Goodspeed Opera House, The Vineyard Theatre, the NYU Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, Playwrights Horizons, The York Theatre, NY City Opera, and Village Theatre, among others. Favorite projects include being a singer for Riverdance on Broadway, Pilate in the tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, the New York cast of Forbidden Broadway:SVU, Ed in A Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night-Time, Jasper in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Fredrik in A Little Night Music, and many more.

​James is also the bookwriter for Looking For Christmas, the new musical with country music legend Clint Black, being developed by the 959 Group and Greg Schaffert Productions. Looking for Christmas had its world premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego to rave reviews in 2018.

James holds a Bachelor in Music in Vocal Performance from Manhattan School of Music, a certificate in Shakespeare and Acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and an MFA from the NYU Graduate Music Theatre Writing Program at Tisch. He is a proud member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA, and The Dramatists Guild.
